POSCO has been running innovation campaign and activities over the past 18 years to continuously improve their business performance. Based on total participation from CEO to employee, it has made prominent and diversified changes that finally satisfied with its customer.
POSCO Innovation activity started igniting from 1998 with PI (Process Innovation) that had been followed by ERP System innovation and 6-Sigma until 2005. Such a reasonable problem-solving process effected on achieving business performance, saving its cost and eliminating process waste as well. Innovation itself must also get changed following change of business environment and customer need in terms of its business strategy and operation system.
In this sense, it also tried to create new innovation model better customized with type of steel process and level of way of working with focusing on facility-based challenge. QSS (Quick Six Sigma) was set up in 2005 in combination with 6-sigma, TPM, IE, and TPS as well - existing well-known innovation activities to reduce mal-function rates, defective rate, and accident rate.
Therefore, this loyal dedication and commitment to innovation become one of the main factors for POSCO received some prestigious awards, such as:
- The Most Competitive Steel Company in the World for 9 (nine) consecutive years (2010 – 2018) from World Steel Dynamics (WSD)
- Fortune Global Top 200 for 7 (seven) consecutive years (2011 – 2017)
- Dow Jones Sustainability Indices for 13 (thirteen) consecutive years (2005 – 2017)
This Technical Training will look at basic concept and recent advances on application of POSCO’s Innovation Tools. Three (3) main topics will be conveyed comprehensively, included with case studies, movies, and discussion as well during the training, they are:
- POSCO innovation history and introduction on the basic concept on company-wide innovation campaign
- The innovation strategy and methodology
- Best Practices on innovation term projects and daily just-do-it activities, applicable to steel industry
This Training is organized in conjunction with the 2019 SEAISI Conference & Exhibition in Thailand – Bangkok and is intended for engineers, managers, and/or executive.
Ill Chul, Shin, PhD, has 29 years of experience in process industry with outstanding leadership and technical expertise in multiple engineering areas such as production control department, assistant manager of Six-Sigma Group, team manager of Innovation Supporting Group of POSCO, and Chief Specialist for Human Resources Development. As one of black belt masters of Six-Sigma Group, currently, he works as a Principal Consultant at POSCO Group University. He is responsible for providing consulting services for POSCO’s Subsidiary Companies and designing consulting process for 4th industrial innovation focusing on smart factory.
